writing

For
several years, if anyone asked me what I did, then I
told them I was a writer. I remember sitting in my grandparent's
basement trying to write my first novel on an old typewriter
with a faded ribbon. I was six. I guess I'm still trying
to finsh that novel. I have four novels in various stages
of completion. Sometimes I write non-fiction articles
for newspapers and the occasional online trendsetter.
I write every single day. |

reporter - Pitchfork Media

I
wrote four articles a week for the infamous Pitchfork.
If Wikipedia can be trusted, then Pitchfork's opinions
have gained some cultural currency in recent years;
some in the mainstream media view the site as a barometer
of the indie music scene. The publication has grown
to reach 150,000 readers per day, and more than 1,300,000
unique visitors per month, making it the most popular
independent-focused music publication online. During
my tenure, I interviewed everyone from sound loop
artist William Basinki to Swedish pop star Jens Lekman.
Some of my favorite bands came out of my time with
the Fork, including The Arcade Fire and Animal Collective.
I also received an acknowledgement in Kim Cooper's
book
on In
the Aeroplane over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel.
It's a great book about a great album.

Here is
a story about author James Patrick Kelly and his
Nebula award winning novella, Burn. Here
is a story I wrote for The Wire on a band whose lead
vocalist has become an unlikely friend. He ended
up working with me on my album for the RPM
Challenge. He's from Rome, Italy.

People
ask me about the novels I have written, and I am always
cagey about it. In many ways, this is my primary focus.
When I can't find time to write, then I no longer feel
like myself. Maybe someday you can be my reader. If
you are a publisher or literary agent, then let me know.
Eventually I plan to use this space to podcast some
readings of my stories. |
