about me

I am an artist, writer, media maker, and teacher with a strong interest in collaborative work. This website serves as a record of my artistic endeavors as well as an online resume for those inquiring about collaboration.

"...a prolific Seacoast artist, writer and filmmaker..." from The Wire, Film with Local Ties wins Big in Boston by Matt Kanner

"John Herman is the multi-hyphenate artist and media maker behind the new episodic web show, Gravityland. The show consists of weekly episodes, viewer responses, a blog, music videos, and a comic book, which are all related in fascinating ways." from David Tames, Art Film Talk #25 John Herman, Gravityland

"Herman is a writer, a media maker and a compulsive ringleader." from Pitchfork, Column: Get That Out of Your Mouth #35 Jam on the Wire by Chris Dahlen

"A fan of artistic risk-taking..." from 18 Miles, Feature: The "Strange" Worlds of John Herman by Dana Unger

"...New-Media Mogul John Herman..." from The Boston Herald Cameras roll as Medford residents strive to conserve ‘Energy’

"John Herman is a charging ball of energy, and oddly enough an effective one. He's a comedian, cartoonist, filmmaker, music producer, teacher, show host, director, voice performer, writer and a few other assorted things -- often more than one at a time..." from The Portsmouth Herald, "Non-stop Art: John Herman is one wild and crazy guy" by Jeanne McCartin

Woods Hole Film Festival, "Media Literacy in the 21st Century"

web TV

Take a look at my recent web TV projects.

The first season of the Energy Smackdown challenged three families to conserve energy for five months. Season Two will involve families in competing cities. Stay tuned!

For over forty episodes, The Eye took a whimsical look at the places, people, and events that I found interesting. Currently on hiatus to make way for Gravityland.
